Bewl Water Outdoor Centre

is a specialist outdoor education facility on the Kent/ East Sussex Border. We are under an hour from most of London, Just south of Royal Tunbridge Well.

Set in the in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Bewl Water is truly an outstanding venue; it is the largest area of inland water in South East England and easily the most picturesque. Coupled with the stunning natural rock outcrop at Harrison’s Rocks, we have the perfect locations. Combine this with excellent equipment and a team of caring, friendly and highly qualified professionals, who will make learning new skills or refining old ones, an easy and enjoyable experience.

We offer safe, exciting and educational adventurous activity programmes for schools, youth groups and other organisations. We pride ourselves in offering quality programmes backed by a friendly, caring and professional service.

Each programme is:

Every visit, whether it is a 'one off' or a series of visits provides a unique opportunity for students to respond to challenges in a variety of conditions and, for example, experience and develop an understanding of:

  • The principles of safety in the outdoors.
  • The techniques and skills specific to an outdoor adventurous activity.
  • Relating to others - peers, teachers and instructors.
  • Working/ playing in a variety of roles including sharing, working as a team member, being led and leading others.

Piece of Mind

  • Bewl Water Outdoor Centre is registered with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority under the Activity Centres (Young Persons Safety) Act 1995. Registration Number R0289.
  • We are a Royal Yachting Association Training Centre and a British Canoe Union Approved Centre.

Our staffing ratios follow National Governing Body recommendations, where such exist, and as a guide are:

All specialist equipment as well as fully qualified instructors are included in our fees.


Cost
As a part of the Education and Libraries Directorate of Kent County Council, Bewl Water Outdoor Centre is a non-profit making organisation and can offer these services and facilities at very competitive costs.

Our charges do vary according to the type of organisation you represent. Kent Schools and Youth Groups receive particularly favourable rates.

For regular sessions our charges are lower still. Regular sessions would be a minimum of 6 sessions for the same people in a specific activity with the aim of pursuing a National Governing Body award i.e. RYA Young Sailors Stage 1.
